Drawing from a worldwide network of professional linguists, translators, interpreters, and editors, the FLS team consists of two components: highly qualified professionals and competent in-house practice managers.
Language Service Providers (LSPs). Trained and credentialed in their native written and verbal language, FLS’s contractual LSPs must prove themselves according to FLS quality standards in the areas of linguistic accuracy, responsiveness to every job, subject matter and technical expertise, and adherence to time constraints.
These self-employed professionals — over 100 of them — invest in continuing education to keep their written and verbal language skills current, speak and read their native language regularly, and make frequent visits to their homeland.
We require that they take nothing for granted in turning “words” into publishable documents, and implore them to challenge themselves by asking questions, researching meanings, and using translation tools and resources to get the most accurate result possible.

Caroline S. Myers, Co-Founder and President/Director. Caroline Myers and Judy Smith founded FLS, Inc. in 1979, and the two co-directed all FLS activities until November 2009 when Judy retired. Caroline now bears the title of President and Director. Caroline is a native of Alabama, where she received a BA degree in French cum laude from Auburn University. Her studies included an intensive junior year of study at the Université de Bourgogne in Dijon, France, where she earned two French study certificates. Caroline taught French in the Huntsville Public Schools prior to beginning her family and founding FLS.
“My study in France and five years of teaching prepared me for the variety of challenges that are typical of running a business. Getting to know FLS’s customers, and providing them with much needed language services has been a great privilege for me.” In 2015, Caroline was chosen to participate in the 10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB) entrepreneurial program at Babson College in Wellesley, MA, sponsored by Goldman Sachs and graduated from this fast paced business course in April. “10KSB offered me and the many cohorts from all over the U.S. state of the art skills in every aspect of running a business. The experience was one-of-a-kind and renewed my dedication to providing our customers solutions to their communication barriers through our language services.”
Equally important are the long-term relationships developed over the years with translators and interpreters on whom FLS relies. “The team effort demonstrated every day between our in-house project managers and the more than one hundred contract translators and interpreters with whom FLS works, requires a strict adherence to our Core Values. I attribute our success to that team commitment to those Core Values.”
Carolina Coates, Interpreting Practice Manager. Carolina joined FLS in February 2015, bringing to FLS a native Spanish language ability, and superb interpersonal and marketing skills. She holds a BS in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing from Instituto Politécnico Nacional in Mexico City. Carolina performs the demanding role of coordinator for managing both foreign language and ASL contracts for the State of Alabama’s Department of Human Resources. In addition, Carolina coordinates FLS’s corporate and state clients who are in need of ASL and foreign language interpreting services on an ongoing basis, such as school systems, private medical practices, law firms, and private enterprises. Carolina also manages the training of FLS’s linguists in the many FLS-specific tasks which focus on customer service and accountability.
Elizabeth C. D’Angelo, CMI – Spanish. FLS welcomes Elizabeth to our staff as an experienced English<>Spanish interpreter who has previously assisted LEP clients in north Alabama in many community and medical settings. A native of Mar del Plata, Argentina, Elizabeth joined FLS’s staff in January 2017, after working for us as a valuable contract interpreter for several years. Her studies in psychology at the Universidad Nacional in Argentina, her interpreting training courses through FLS and other organizations, her ample experience as a medical and community interpreter, and her desire to constantly improve her professional knowledge makes her the ideal addition to the FLS staff.
Josi Saunders, Business Development. Josi joined FLS in September 2016 as a recent graduate of the University of Alabama-Huntsville with a B.A. in Foreign Language (Spanish) and International Trade. In addition to her studies, Josi was granted a full athletic scholarship at UAH, where she played all women’s basketball throughout her collegiate career. During her time at UAH, she completed an internship in Costa Rica working with preschool-aged students at St. Nicolas de Flue School. In May 2017, having fully completed her goal to learn the ins and outs of FLS’s office management while assisting the Interpreting Practice Manager, Josi began an exciting new role of assisting FLS’s Director and Practice Managers in business development, as FLS embarks on exciting new growth opportunities.
Madison Hughes, Office Administrator/Assistant Program Manager. Joining the FLS staff in May of 2017, Madison comes well qualified with a background in Education from both Athens State University and the University of Alabama in Huntsville. Madison assumes a dual role at FLS, that of Office Administrator and Assistant to the Interpreting Practice Manager, Ms. Coates. In addition to professional experience in the Behavioral Health Care field in previous jobs, Madison’s long-held interest in Spanish fits beautifully into the multilingual atmosphere that is FLS.
