A developed skill, INTERPRETING (oral communication) is very different from translating (written communication). Two methods of interpreting are used – Simultaneous and Consecutive – depending on the circumstances.

Simultaneous Interpreting: Used for conferences, meetings and often the courtroom, this interpreting style requires the use of headsets and soundproofed or tabletop booths. The interpreter “simultaneously” translates what the speaker is saying to the listener(s).  We recommend that two interpreters pair for each assignment due to the intensity of this type of work. Native ability is a must.

Consecutive Interpreting: Used for plant visits, depositions, small groups, or teleconferences, this style of interpreting can be informal or formal. The interpreter stands or sits near the speaker, who pauses to allow for the interpretation. Native ability is also a must.
