Simultaneous Interpreting
Simultaneous Interpreting is the process of orally translating one language into another, without interruption and within a few seconds after the originator delivers the message.
The simultaneous interpreter must be a trained linguist with an ability to think and translate the message instantly and accurately. Simultaneous Interpreting is a more formal method of oral communication, often used when conducting conferences or holding large meetings with multilingual attendees or customers. It may also be requested for day-long training sessions or in courtroom settings. Pairs of interpreters are situated behind either see-through barriers or in booths, while attendees wear wireless headphones and receivers. The equipment makes the process non-disruptive, facilitating the interpretation of many languages in real time.
Since simultaneous interpreting is exhausting, interpreters work together as teams in 20-minute shifts, attentive to the subject, so the transition between interpreters is seamless to the listener.
FLS uses only experienced conference-level and court-certified interpreters for this type of assignment.
