Competitive pricing, accurate work, and responsive project management: That’s what government agencies expect from FLS, and that’s what our federal, state, and local government customers get!

Over Thirty-five Years of Service for the Government Sector. FLS has been a language service provider for federal agencies since 1981 when our teams developed proficiency tests in Korean, French, and German for the U.S. Army’s Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, we provided translation services for government agencies across the country and assisted Huntsville defense contractors supporting our military forces worldwide.

Technical Translation

Over twenty years of patent translation experience. FLS has translated for both the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and many law firms representing clients who register their patents. Using a core team of forty of the best legal/patent translators found anywhere, we annually translate over a thousand patents of varying technical subject matter. The project managers have perfected the process that efficiently produces the many patents FLS translates annually for the government and for private law firms.

Every day, the FLS translation team is faced with the challenge to provide accurate translations of a distinctive subject matter. While one team member edits patents about personal hygiene products such as a toothbrush or a curling iron, another member gets in touch with a translator working on biogenetics and holistic medicine translations. Later that day, we review a patent for solar panels or tires. We are surprised on a daily basis on the patents that are out in the world! We carefully examine our subject matter and work closely with expert translators with experience in the field.

From motorcycles to robots. As the world has changed, so have the requirements for subject matter expertise and language translation. FLS management has been able to adjust to trends throughout. In the 1980s and ‘90s, FLS translators were kept busy with military journals, weaponry warfare translations, veterans’ medical reports and reimbursements, and USDA food safety regulations for products imported from South America and France. We assisted Alabama military bases in translation of Army materiel that included missiles, helicopters, and foreign army materiel. The state of West Virginia’s Division of Motor Vehicles requested a driver’s manual in German; and later, a motorcycle manual into Japanese. More recent projects have involved translation of high tech robotics for the U.S. and our allies, law enforcement and civilian use; hardware devices and software for computers; transcription and translation for the Department of Justice, and all the while translating dozens of patents on a weekly basis for the Patent Office.

No doubt about FLS’s wide capabilities and even more certain, the need for accurate, rapid and competitive translation as an ongoing requirement. FLS is poised to apply our talented pool of translators, backed by savvy editors and guaranteed by FLS in-house project management to provide an incomparable service.
